Replacement Conservatory Roofs

  • Do you have trouble keeping your conservatory a comfortable temperature? If so, you might want to look at replacement conservatory roofs, rather than replacing the entire structure.

St. Ives Windows offers a number of options for replacement conservatory roofs that suit your needs and budget.

Polycarbonate is one of the most cost-effective options for replacement conservatory roofs. This has multi chambers and insulation to keep your conservatory a comfortable temperature all year round. Replacing your roof with a modern polycarbonate one is usually a quick job with minimal hassle.

You can also replace an older glass conservatory roof with a new one. While glass roofs often used to be inefficient, newer high-performance glass can reflect the sun’s rays, keeping your conservatory cool in the summer, while offering excellent insulation during the winter months.

One of the advantages of newer glass roofs is that they also have self-cleaning technology, so you pay less for maintenance. We can add a thin coating of titanium dioxide to our glass, which creates a very smooth surface. This makes rain run off easier and means you don’t get the marks left by rain droplets.

Our glass coatings can also contain a UV filter, which is a good way of helping to break down dirt, which then washes away when it rains or when you hose down your roof. This means you spend less money on window cleaning services.

If energy efficiency is your priority, then we’d suggest a tiled or part-tiled roof. These lightweight roofs can be fitted to an existing conservatory or a new one. We are licenced to install Ultraframe products such as Livin Roof and Ultrasky, which are light yet hardwearing roofs that can be part-glazed to let in some extra natural light. Tiled roofs are a good way of making a conservatory feel more like an extension as well.

Conservatories don’t generally need planning permission, are less expensive than an extension, and are a great way to add extra space in your home. But a good roof is essential to making them into usable space, which is why you might want to consider a replacement conservatory roof for an older model. Older conservatories were often fitted with inefficient roofs, so why not see if we can upgrade yours and let you enjoy the space again?

Common Questions

Can I add a tiled roof to my conservatory?

Conservatories with polycarbonate or glass roofs can often be upgraded and fitted with a tiled roof. While you may worry that the structure won’t support a tiled roof, there are lightweight options available, some of them even lighter than glass roofs, so it’s usually possible. For peace of mind, we’ll always carry out an inspection of your existing conservatory to make sure it could support a tiled roof and that it would meet building regulations. You usually won’t need planning permission to make this change. You can then choose the roof you want, whether it’s fully tiled or part-tiled with roof windows to let in natural light.

Does my conservatory roof need replacing?

The length of time a conservatory roof will last will depend on the weather conditions, how well it has been maintained, and many other factors. However, around 15 years after installation, you might start to notice the common signs that may mean you need a replacement conservatory roof. These include: a reduction in energy efficiency, hearing more noise from outside, getting draughts or cold spots, or noticing algae or moss growing on your roof. If you have any of these issues, contact us today to discuss a replacement roof.

Does insulating a conservatory roof work?

While there are companies who offer a service where they add secondary insulation to your conservatory roof, at St. Ives Windows, we don’t offer this. The reason being is that this usually only works in the short term and shows minimal improvement. However, we do offer replacement conservatory roofs. This can give you a marked improvement in energy efficiency, and you get a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty with the installation. Speak to our team today to discuss whether a new roof is the right option for you.

What’s the best roof for a conservatory?

Conservatory technology has improved greatly in recent years, so we can provide a number of options that are energy efficient and attractive. Polycarbonate is one of the least expensive options, although it’s not as durable as some other products. Having a glass roof installed by St. Ives Windows gives you strong, energy efficient glazing, while letting in lots of natural light. By far the most energy efficient option is a tiled roof, which also gives you shade and a neat finish.
