Porches

  • A new porch can improve your home’s kerb appeal and also give you some extra practical space. As well as being a useful place to store shoes and coats, porches also create a welcoming space to greet guests.

At St. Ives Windows, we create bespoke porches in our state-of-the-art factory, allowing you to enjoy nearly endless style options and ways to personalise your porch. You can choose many different windows and doors, brick or glazed options, and traditional or modern finishes. This allows you to add character and individuality to your porch.

We use only the highest-quality materials when we build your porch, to ensure the best levels of security for your home. Our composite doors are especially strong, and perfect to fit to a porch. We also offer PVCu panel doors which have multiple colour and glazing options. Regardless of which one you choose, all our doors come with multi-point locking systems for peace of mind.

Your porch can be built with a tiled roof for excellent energy efficiency, a glass roof for extra light, or if you’re on a budget, a polycarbonate roof for an inexpensive but effective option. Once built, your porch can become a boot room, a space for storage, or simply a place to greet guests.

Common Questions

Will a new porch need a foundation?

Installing a porch will require a foundation. While it may seem overly cautious to dig a foundation for such a small structure, without a strong foundation, your porch could potentially move over time and wouldn’t last in the testing British weather. When you decide to have a porch installed, we send a surveyor to your home to test the soil and decide where and how deep the foundations need to be.

Will I need planning permission for a porch?

Smaller porches often come under ‘permitted development’, so you don’t usually need planning permission for them. If your porch is less than two metres from your property boundary and the road, and the porch is going to be less than three metres squared, you probably won’t need planning permission. If you aren’t sure whether this applies to you, contact your local planning department or chat to our team who can discuss this with you further.

Can adding a porch add value to your home?

Porches can add value to your home, as they add space and can also increase your kerb appeal. If you have a home where the front door opens straight into the living room, this can be unappealing to buyers, as there’s nowhere to take off shoes and store coats. A porch can also provide extra security for your home if it’s fitted with a secure front door, which is something that may appeal to potential buyers.

What size is best for a porch?

If you choose a porch that’s less than three metres squared, you probably won’t need planning permission, so many people choose a porch under this size. Otherwise, the size of the porch you want is up to you, as we can make it to your specifications. A smaller porch is fine if you just want somewhere to leave coats and shoes, but if you want more of a boot room where people can sit down and remove their muddy wellies, then you might want a slightly larger porch to accommodate a bench. If you’re thinking of installing a porch, speak to us at St. Ives Windows and we can discuss the size you might need.

Features and benefits

Guarantees you can depend on.

We have built up a great reputation over years of delivering a first class service and excellent products, all from our local, no nonsense all-about-you company.

From characteristic country cottages to contemporary town houses, we’re confident that our products will offer a style and finish to truly transform your project. Through constant innovation the quality, durability and security of our products is genuinely second to none. As a local company we are proud to offer British Standards BS7412/PAS24 for enhanced security.

We refuse to compromise on quality

Our windows are made from British Made, high quality MarinespecTM components, with up to 25 years anti corrosion. They are built specifically for the more exposed areas of corrosion, such as coastal environments to give you worry free performance beyond your guarantee.  We believe spending more on components is worth every penny, and sets us apart from our competitors.

State of the art fabrication for best quality

We have invested millions of pounds into one of the most state of the art manufacturing facilities in the UK.  This enables us to provide you with consistently high quality products at exceptionally good prices. Our loyal factory workers are well trained and take pride in their work, they really care about quality.  Our machines are maintained according to a rigorous servicing regime to keep them in top condition.

Superior energy efficiency

Our ‘A’ rated energy efficient and triple glazed windows are tested by the BFRC, which will save you money on your heating bills. By law your windows and doors have to meet strict thermal performance regulations but you can be rest assured that our products exceed current requirements.

Energy saving is incredibly important and so is keeping your fuel bills down. We are continuously looking for ways to make our projects energy efficient and one way is to choose new PVCu windows and doors. Not only will they help to keep your project warmer, they will reduce your energy loss.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Our suppliers conform to strictly controlled and independently monitored Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, to ensure that everything is done correctly and according to best practise.

Our windows are tested independently by British Standards for security, weather tightness and strength performance. This means that periodically, we have to send them to independent test houses, in order to be tested to destruction.

These are just some of the many standards the products in our vast range conform to. Needless to say we take the quality of our products very seriously indeed.
