Patio Doors

  • St. Ives Windows have installed patio doors for many satisfied customers, and when you take a look at our reviews, you’ll see that people love the quality and elegant style of these doors. Manufactured to be secure and stable, so they won’t create draughts or rattle in the wind, they keep your home cosy and stylish.

When we manufacture our doors, we put them under rigorous testing so you can be sure they’ll keep your home warm and cosy. Our patio doors have been thoroughly weather tested so they are energy efficient and keep out cold and damp.

Patio doors are an excellent way to open up your home and enjoy your outdoor space year-round. They can be made in uPVC or aluminium and are strong and durable, while needing minimal maintenance. We can create your patio doors to fit the space in your home perfectly, with two, four or three panes. When you want to open patio doors, they slide across smoothly behind one fixed panel to keep them out the way.

Patio doors are a good alternative to bifold doors if you are short on space, as they don’t take up any indoor or outdoor space with swinging doors. If you have a room that doesn’t have much natural light, then patio doors are an easy way to open it up and make it feel brighter.

How do sliding patio doors open?

While our sliding patio doors are easy to operate, they are very secure when shut. When you want to open your doors, there’s a lever on the door handle that you simply turn to unlock the door, and it then just slides across to the position you want. Because these doors are on rollers, they glide with little effort, no matter what size they are. Once your doors are installed, we’ll show you how to operate them and ensure they are working perfectly before we leave.

What's a lift and slide patio door?

Classic sliding patio doors are on rollers, while lift and slide patio doors have a slightly different mechanism. Lift and slide doors can be lifted to come off the roller track, securing it into a certain position. You then lift it back on the track if you want to move it. The main advantage of this is that you can open the door to any width and keep it closed, and they’re useful if you have kids.

How wide can a two-panel sliding glass door be?

When you are considering sliding patio doors, especially in a small space, you’ll need to think about the size of the door opening. With a two panel door, only one panel can be open at any time, and with the standard size of a patio door overall at 6ft – or 2m – this gives you about 3ft or 1m to get out into your garden. St. Ives Windows can create patio doors to all sorts of sizes, so simply get in touch and we can offer you a free, no-obligation quote.

Are patio doors energy efficient?

Patio doors can have a high energy efficiency rating, but it all depends on their quality and the options you choose. At St. Ives Windows, we create patio doors with double glazing as standard, with A-rated glass that has a low U-value, so little heat escapes and you avoid draughts. We always use the best quality materials, whether you choose patio doors in aluminium or PVCu, which ensures energy efficiency in your home.

Can an intruder break into a sliding patio door?

Sliding patio doors are mostly made of glass, which often leads people to worry that they might be easy targets for burglars. Rest-assured, when you buy patio doors from St. Ives Windows, your doors will be fitted with toughened glass, which is incredibly difficult to break. We participate in the Police’s initiative, which encourages the use of modern security features to reduce burglaries. If you’d like to find out more about how we create secure patio doors, please get in touch.

How much will a patio door cost?

The cost of a patio door will depend on the material you choose, the size of the door and various other features. PVCu is generally the least expensive option, while aluminium is more expensive but can give you a more contemporary, minimalistic feel. Larger doors tend to cost more to manufacture, and if you choose to upgrade to triple glazing, you’ll have to factor in this cost. Contact us today and we’ll be happy to give you a free quote for your patio doors.

Through constant innovation the quality, durability and security of our products is genuinely second to none. As a local company we are proud to offer British Standards BS7412/PAS24 for enhanced security.

We refuse to compromise on quality

Our windows are made from British Made, high quality MarinespecTM components, with up to 25 years anti corrosion. They are built specifically for the more exposed areas of corrosion, such as coastal environments to give you worry free performance beyond your guarantee.  We believe spending more on components is worth every penny, and sets us apart from our competitors.

State of the art fabrication for best quality

We have invested millions of pounds into one of the most state of the art manufacturing facilities in the UK.  This enables us to provide you with consistently high quality products at exceptionally good prices. Our loyal factory workers are well trained and take pride in their work, they really care about quality.  Our machines are maintained according to a rigorous servicing regime to keep them in top condition.

Superior energy efficiency

Our ‘A’ rated energy efficient and triple glazed windows are tested by the BFRC, which will save you money on your heating bills. By law your windows and doors have to meet strict thermal performance regulations but you can be rest assured that our products exceed current requirements.

Energy saving is incredibly important and so is keeping your fuel bills down. We are continuously looking for ways to make our projects energy efficient and one way is to choose new PVCu windows and doors. Not only will they help to keep your project warmer, they will reduce your energy loss.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Our suppliers conform to strictly controlled and independently monitored Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, to ensure that everything is done correctly and according to best practise.

Our windows are tested independently by British Standards for security, weather tightness and strength performance. This means that periodically, we have to send them to independent test houses, in order to be tested to destruction.

These are just some of the many standards the products in our vast range conform to. Needless to say we take the quality of our products very seriously indeed.
