Lean-to Conservatories

  • Lean-to conservatories are ideal for those who have height restrictions on their property. We can design you a perfect conservatory, even if you have a bungalow or space that won’t fit a larger conservatory.

With a simple, sleek design, lean-to conservatories are an easy way to add more space to your home. Lean-tos can be built with a steep pitch for a high ceiling, or a shallow pitch for when you need to keep the glazed extension under a certain height.

Lean-to conservatories are an excellent way to add some bright, spacious living space in your home, and are often used as dining rooms, playrooms or just space to relax. If you like to keep things simple and modern in your home, then a lean-to might be the perfect choice for you.

Lean-to conservatories can also be used if you want to take advantage of adjoining walls to create extra living space. Arrange for a home visit and we can offer you options for your own conservatory.

While lots of people like using a lean-to for living space, they’re also great for growing plants due to the amount of natural light they offer. You can bring your plants inside during the long British winters, or grow tropical plants there year-round.

  • The Lean-to conservatory is the simplest style of conservatory, with clean lines that give it a contemporary look that make them a popular conservatory for modern houses. The simple shape gives you the maximum space in a highly economical style.

Whether your lean-to conservatory is traditional or contemporary, the style is perfect for properties that have restricted space under the eaves, like a bungalow, or have an area that’s too awkward to accommodate a conservatory. This is because the pitch of the roof on lean to conservatories can vary, so a shallow pitch can fit under a low bungalow roof and a steeper one would be ideal for a terraced house.

Does a lean-to conservatory need foundations?

While lean-to conservatories use one of your property’s walls for stability, they will also need foundations. This ensures you have a sturdy structure that won’t subside or otherwise become unstable – this way, it will last for years to come. As for the depth of the foundations, this will depend on the soil where the conservatory is to be built. This is why we send a surveyor round to do a home visit, as they can check the soil and calculate the depth of foundation you’ll need for a sturdy structure.

What is a lean-to conservatory?

A lean-to conservatory, sometimes called a sunroom, is made up of three glass walls, which are attached to one of the existing walls of your property. They are often smaller than a full-sized conservatory and can either be built with a glass roof for lots of natural light, or a tiled one for additional insulation. Lean-to conservatories are a great alternative to larger conservatories if you’re short on space.

Are lean-tos and conservatories the same thing?

Lean-tos and conservatories have a number of things in common. They both have similar styles, with large glass doors and windows to let in the natural light. A lean-to conservatory, however, is generally smaller than other conservatory styles. They tend to either have a flat or gently sloping roof, and don’t take up much of your garden space. Styles such as Victorian or Gable conservatories tend to be bigger, have pitched roofs, and have a more ornate style with more of a decorative design.

Why should I choose a lean-to conservatory?

Lean-to conservatories are often chosen by those who have limited outdoor space. This is because they allow you to add extra space to your home without sacrificing too much of your garden. They’re also ideal for properties with height restrictions, for example, houses with bungalows or eaves that would get in the way of a standard conservatory, as they can be built with a flat or low-pitched roof.

Lean-to conservatories also suit those who want a conservatory, but prefer simple, modern designs to the more ornate options.
