Gable Conservatories

  • Gable conservatories are the perfect choice when you want to add additional living space without the hassle of an extension.

Gable conservatories can be recognised by their sloping roof that gives you high ceilings inside, opening up the room and giving it a light, spacious feel. It’s no wonder that Gable conservatories are such a popular look in homes across the UK.

The thing that defines a Gable conservatory is the triangular-shaped section at the front where the roof meets. This often has a decorative finish, and we offer lots of options to personalise this feature. Gable conservatories tend to be more flexible than Victorian or Edwardian conservatories, so allow for a wider range of styles and shapes.

It’s also easy to fit blinds into Gable end conservatories, so if you’re someone who likes some shade in summer, or wants privacy from your neighbours, they’re the ideal choice.

One of the reasons why Gable conservatories are so popular is that they tend to suit many property styles. While they have a timeless style, inspired by the classic Georgian conservatories, they can look just as good next to a period property or a contemporary home. We offer different designs to complement different property eras.

  • With a gable-end conservatory, the front of the roof doesn’t slope back to the centre. Instead, the front of the conservatory stays upright, like the end of a house – this is often called a sunburst effect. This is where the gable-end conservatory style gets its name from. A gable-end conservatory is square or rectangular in shape, providing you maximum space and light.

What is a Gable conservatory?

A Gable conservatory, sometimes known as a Gable-end conservatory, is a conservatory most noticeable by its roof style. Instead of sloping away from the house, a Gable conservatory has a pitched roof that is upright and has a triangle shape at the end. Within this triangle, you’ll often find a pretty, decorative design like a sunburst, or it can be kept plain.

Why should I choose a Gable conservatory?

Gable conservatories are an excellent way to add practical living space to your home. Because they are made in a rectangular or square shape, the space is easy to use and it’s easier to find furniture that fits nicely into the room. Gable conservatories date back to Georgian times, so if you have a period home, they’re perfect for showing off the ornate features of your home. Gable conservatories have a flat front section, which allows for great views of your garden and lots of natural light. Not sure whether a Gable conservatory is right for you? Visit our showroom for some style inspiration.

Are Gable conservatories energy efficient?

Gable conservatories can have excellent energy efficiency, as long as they are built to a high standard with quality materials. That’s why you should choose St. Ives Windows to manufacture your conservatory. We manufacture your conservatory in our Bristol factory, using energy efficient glass and other materials, so you get a comfortable temperature year-round. Also, the design of your conservatory makes a big difference. Installing a dwarf wall and choosing a tiled roof can both help reduce heat loss, while still giving you lots of natural light.

Are Gable conservatories secure?

When you have a Gable conservatory installed by St. Ives Windows, you get peace of mind knowing we’ve done all we can to make it secure. Our products were run by the UK police, which aims to reduce the number of burglaries with the creation of high quality security products. The windows and doors in your conservatory will be fitted with toughened double glazing, which is incredibly difficult to break, and doors are fitted with a secure multi-point lock. However, it’s also a good idea to not leave expensive items in view in your conservatory as an extra security measure.
