Common questions

What is a flush casement window?

A casement window is made up of a single or pair of window panes, which attach to the frame with a hinge, so it can be swung open. As the hinge is outside the frame, the windows swing outwards, ideal for when you need fresh air and want to let more light inside.

You can also find top hung casement windows, sometimes known as awning casement windows. These feature a hinge at the top, which means they can be open a little to let in air, while protecting your interior from the rain. Flush casement windows are different in that they sit flush against the wall of your property.

Are flush casement windows energy efficient?

When we manufacture casement windows, we ensure that there is an airtight seal between the window and the frame when it’s closed. This eliminates draughts from your windows and means that when the heating is on, the warm air doesn’t escape. This is an excellent way of insulating your home and cutting down your energy bills.

Our casement windows come with double glazing as standard, with A+ rated glass, but you can upgrade to triple glazing. Whichever option you choose, you can be sure of excellent insulation levels and noise reduction.

Is a flush casement window the same thing as a picture window?

A picture window is different to a casement window. Picture windows are made up of either a single pane of glass, or just a few, so there’s no obstruction to your outside view. They tend to be used in places where you want to enjoy views of the outdoors, whether it’s in a seafront or city home. However, picture windows can’t be opened, so you can’t let fresh air inside.

Casement windows are set on the frame with a hinge, allowing them to swing either inwards or outwards. This means you can let fresh air inside and get a breeze on warm days.

Are casement windows secure?

When we manufacture our casement windows, we add hook-shaped locks, so that when the windows are closed, these hooks insert into the frame. If an intruder tried to pry these windows open, they’d find it nearly impossible to do so. These windows also have a multi-locking system which is extremely hard to pick.

Our windows have been designed with the police’s initiative in mind. This ensures that you feel safe in your home and have peace of mind when you leave your property.

How much do flush casement windows cost?

It’s impossible to give an accurate price for flush casement windows without knowing the size of window you need, the material you’d like used, and how complex the installation will be. If you’re replacing a flush casement window like for like, this is usually less expensive, compared with installing a new set of flush casement windows.

Our least expensive option for flush casement windows is uPVC. You can get these windows in a range of woodgrain and colour finishes. We also offer aluminium, which usually costs a little more. To get an accurate price, get in touch with St. Ives Windows and we can give you a quote.

Is it worth getting flush casement windows?

Flush casement windows are a good choice for you if you’d like to let lots of light and air into your home. Newer windows from St. Ives Windows can also improve your home’s insulation, and if you choose flush windows, the perfect fit means you avoid having draughts in your home.

Flush casement windows are easy to open, with a crank mechanism to operate them. Even if you have limited mobility or a disability, you should be able to open and close the windows with one hand.

We have invested millions of pounds into one of the most state of the art manufacturing facilities in the UK.  This enables us to provide you with consistently high quality products at exceptionally good prices. Our loyal factory workers are well trained and take pride in their work, they really care about quality.  Our machines are maintained according to a rigorous servicing regime to keep them in top condition.

Superior energy efficiency

Our ‘A’ rated energy efficient and triple glazed windows are tested by the BFRC, which will save you money on your heating bills. By law your windows and doors have to meet strict thermal performance regulations but you can be rest assured that our products exceed current requirements.

Energy saving is incredibly important and so is keeping your fuel bills down. We are continuously looking for ways to make our projects energy efficient and one way is to choose new PVCu windows and doors. Not only will they help to keep your project warmer, they will reduce your energy loss.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Our suppliers conform to strictly controlled and independently monitored Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, to ensure that everything is done correctly and according to best practise.

Our windows are tested independently by British Standards for security, weather tightness and strength performance. This means that periodically, we have to send them to independent test houses, in order to be tested to destruction.

These are just some of the many standards the products in our vast range conform to. Needless to say we take the quality of our products very seriously indeed.
