What decorative glass style do Georgian windows have?

Georgian windows are a classic look you’ll see in homes across the UK from many different eras. These are windows where the panes of glass are divided into multiple sections using glazing bars, which add an elegant, decorative finish.

St. Ives Windows can turn many of our window styles into Georgian windows, using a number of different methods to divide the glass. The classic option is to add raised glazing bars on the outside of the panes, but we can also place the bars between the two layers of glass so there’s a smooth finish and they’re easier to clean. Speak to the team if you’re considering adding Georgian windows to your property.

Is it hard to clean decorative glass?

Most types of decorative glass are easy to clean. If you choose a grid design that’s raised, then you may find a small amount of dust can collect around the panels, so they may need regular dusting. It’s easier to have the grid fitted between the panes of glass, which gives you the same look without collecting dust.

Our bevelled and coloured glass can be cleaned the same as any of our windows. A simple window cleaner and a clean cloth will be enough to keep it looking good.

What is bevelled glass?

One of the classic ways to add a decorative touch to your window is to use bevelled glass. This is glass that has the edges cut at an angle all around the frame, and that edge can then be polished for a clear finish, or simply left as textured glass. Bevelled glass catches the light beautifully and adds an elegant touch.

You’ll often see bevelled glass on front doors, as they let in lots of glass, while still being decorative. You can combine bevelled glass with any other style options to get the perfect look for your home.

What kind of grid designs are available?

Because St. Ives Windows manufacture their own windows, we can offer a range of personalisation options, so you can get the right look for your windows, doors or conservatory. Many people opt for a classic diamond or square grid, or we can create something intricate. Simply chat to our team and we can let you know what we can do.

Your grid design can also be embellished with options such as coloured or textured glass. While this glass looks beautiful, they are also practical, made to the highest quality and completely secure.

Can you create bespoke decorative glass?

St. Ives Windows manufactures our own windows in a factory close to Bristol, which means we have the potential to create almost an unlimited amount of designs. If there’s something specific you’d like designed, all you need to do is ask the team and we can advise whether it’s possible.

Want some style inspiration? Download our brochure, which has details of some of the coloured and textured glass that we can create. You can also visit our showroom to see some examples of our work.

Where can decorative glass be installed?

Our decorative glass can be installed in a number of places. It’s often used in areas where you want to reduce visibility from the outside. For example, you’ll see it used in bathrooms and on front doors, as you can still let light inside while maintaining a sense of privacy. It’s also ideal for when you want to add some personality and even a quirky touch to your home, with so many style options available.
