Bifold Doors

  • In recent years, bifold doors have grown in popularity, as they allow people to bring the outdoors inside their home. If you want the ability to completely open up your living space, then bifold doors might be right for you.

Bifold doors fold back on themselves, so when they are open, you get unobstructed access to the outdoors. During the summer months, you can remove the barrier between your living and outside space, which opens up your home to lots of fresh air and natural light. In the winter months, these glass doors allow you to enjoy the outside view in all weathers.

We can design bifold doors that have the perfect look and fit for your home. You can choose between many styles, colours and finishes to tailor them to suit your property and tastes.

  • Our sleek aluminium framed bi-fold doors come in a range of contemporary colours and are designed to complement your project. Typically a set of 2 or more standard size glass doors that open in a concertina style and neatly fold flat when open.

Bi-folding doors can also be stacked inside or outside the frame and open from the left or right. The combination of a multi-point locking system, locking shoot-bolts, high security hinges and thermally toughened glass mean our bi-fold Doors are designed to keep the whole family safe.

Do you need a bottom track for bifold doors?

At St Ives, we always install a bottom track with our bifold doors/ This is because, without this bottom track, all the weight of the door is hung from the top track, so a strong lintel is needed. A bottom track also gives you a much smoother opening and makes the doors feel more stable.

How long does bifold door installation take?

Bifold doors are made in our UK factory, and once they’ve been delivered, they can be installed in just one day. You simply need to decide which style you’d like, plus details such as the finish, and we can manufacture them in about six weeks. We’ll then arrange for our expert engineers to carry out your installation with minimal disruption and hassle, so you can enjoy your new bifold doors as soon as possible.

Can bifold doors add value to my house?

Bifold doors can open up your home and let in lots of natural light, both things that can appeal to potential buyers. If you have a great outdoor space that’s not being used as much as you like, bifold doors allow you to enjoy the view year-round. Bifold doors are stylish and modern, as well as being energy efficient, and they can add an interesting feature to your home.

How do bifold doors work?

A bifold door is built with two to seven large glass panes, which are fitted to a track, and slide across. These leaves separate, and fold back on themselves like a concertina, so once you’ve pulled them across all the way, they neatly stack out of the way. Bifold doors can have an advantage over sliding or French doors, as they tend to give you more open space and a contemporary feel. Come and visit our showroom if you’d like to see how they work.

Do bifold doors suit large or small spaces?

St. Ives Windows manufactures all the bifold doors we install, which means they can be made to all sorts of sizes. If you have a large living space, they can open up your home and bring in lots of natural light and fresh air. In smaller spaces, they can make your rooms feel more open, and because they fold away neatly, you don’t sacrifice any extra space. Some customers prefer them in smaller spaces, as traditional patio doors always have one glass panel that can’t be opened, while bifold doors open all the way.

Do the doors stack inside or outside?

Your doors will be manufactured to your specifications, so it’s completely up to you whether they are made to stack on the inside or outside of your home. If you have a patio area with furniture or plant pots that might get in the way of the stacking doors, then you might want to have them designed to stack inside. If your indoor space is limited, or the layout just won’t suit doors stacking indoors, then we can make them stack outside your property. Visit our showroom if you’d like to see the different options available.

As a local company we are proud to offer British Standards BS7412/PAS24 for enhanced security.

We refuse to compromise on quality

Our windows are made from British Made, high quality MarinespecTM components, with up to 25 years anti corrosion. They are built specifically for the more exposed areas of corrosion, such as coastal environments to give you worry free performance beyond your guarantee.  We believe spending more on components is worth every penny, and sets us apart from our competitors.

State of the art fabrication for best quality

We have invested millions of pounds into one of the most state of the art manufacturing facilities in the UK.  This enables us to provide you with consistently high quality products at exceptionally good prices. Our loyal factory workers are well trained and take pride in their work, they really care about quality.  Our machines are maintained according to a rigorous servicing regime to keep them in top condition.

Superior energy efficiency

Our ‘A’ rated energy efficient and triple glazed windows are tested by the BFRC, which will save you money on your heating bills. By law your windows and doors have to meet strict thermal performance regulations but you can be rest assured that our products exceed current requirements.

Energy saving is incredibly important and so is keeping your fuel bills down. We are continuously looking for ways to make our projects energy efficient and one way is to choose new PVCu windows and doors. Not only will they help to keep your project warmer, they will reduce your energy loss.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Our suppliers conform to strictly controlled and independently monitored Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, to ensure that everything is done correctly and according to best practise.

Our windows are tested independently by British Standards for security, weather tightness and strength performance. This means that periodically, we have to send them to independent test houses, in order to be tested to destruction.

These are just some of the many standards the products in our vast range conform to. Needless to say we take the quality of our products very seriously indeed.
