Aluminium Windows
-
Sleek and lightweight while still remaining strong and long-lasting, aluminium is the perfect choice for window frames. Because aluminium is so strong, your frames can be thinner, allowing you to have bigger window panes and more light.
St. Ives Windows manufacture our own aluminium windows in our UK-based factory, allowing us to create a number of styles. We can create windows that look just like your old steel heritage ones, or modern styles for sleek, contemporary homes.
Your aluminium windows can be made with a number of finishes, and we give you a choice of over 85,000 components, so your windows can be completely personalised to suit your home and preferences.
While aluminium frames are thinner than other options, they are some of the strongest options on the market. They’re very secure and they require hardly any maintenance as they don’t rust over time.

You can have your aluminium windows made with double glazing or triple glazing. Because they’re great at insulating your home, you’ll no doubt notice your energy bills reduce. You may think aluminium frames will be cold, but because we fit them with a thermal break, they are great insulators.

How long will aluminium windows last?
The length of time your aluminium windows will last will depend on a number of factors. If you keep them well-maintained, they will last longer. However, even with a lot of wear and tear and minimal maintenance, you can expect aluminium windows to last for decades. Look after them, and they could potentially last 40 years or more before you need to think about replacements.
All you really need to do to maintain your windows is to wipe down the frame to remove debris and dust. They can also be hoovered.
What kind of buildings use aluminium windows?
You may have seen aluminium windows in commercial properties. Because they’re strong and long-lasting, they are often used in schools, colleges and offices. However, they are becoming more popular in period homes and also in contemporary properties where people want big windows with few obstructions. They’re also great for those who want low-maintenance windows, as once installed, they can last decades without much upkeep. If they’re too expensive for your budget, you might want to consider uPVC windows, which are cheaper yet offer many of the same benefits.
What are the advantages of aluminium windows?
As well as being lightweight and having a sleek frame, aluminium windows allow you to have bigger window panes, which allow lots of light into your home. They also don’t need much maintenance. They’re rust-resistant and all they need is a wipe now and again to remove dirt and grime. They can potentially last for decades and add a touch of elegance to your home.
When the time comes to finally replace these windows, they are 100% recyclable. However, St. Ives Windows will take away and recycle any of your old windows, no matter what the material.
Are uPVC or aluminium windows better?
There are benefits to both uPVC and aluminium windows. uPVC is a tough plastic that can last for many years, and offers excellent security and energy efficiency while being inexpensive. Aluminium windows are more expensive than uPVC, but they have thinner frames, which let in more light, and they look great in period homes. They’re also strong and can potentially last for an extremely long time.
Can’t decide whether you prefer uPVC or aluminium frames? The team at St. Ives Windows are here to help you make the right choice.
Are aluminium windows energy efficient?
In cold weather, you may expect aluminium windows to feel cold, but we’ve designed our windows with a thermal break. This means that between the outside metal frame and the inner one, there’s a layer of non-conductive material, so the cold from the outside doesn’t get inside your home.
Our aluminium windows also have double glazing as standard for energy efficiency. If you want to improve your home’s energy rating, consider upgrading to triple glazing, which makes a big difference.
